100×35 BANDERAS: Raíces

Introduction

Puerto Ricans share a profound connection with their single-star flag. It is more than a national symbol; it is a powerful expression of identity, pride, and belonging. Like the unmistakable call of the coquí — small yet iconic — the Puerto Rican flag has become an emblem of who we are as a people: boricuas de pura cepa.

Through this symbol we celebrate our island, our culture, and the resilience that has shaped generations of Puerto Ricans.

Yet every Puerto Rican is unique. Each person carries their own story, personality, and way of experiencing the world. These differences are not contradictions; they are the very elements that enrich and define our culture.

Despite our individuality, we remain connected by a powerful collective identity — a shared sense of homeland and a deep emotional bond with the island that shaped us.

This shared feeling is what we call Boricua pride.

A Living Work in Progress

100×35 BANDERAS is conceived as a living, evolving project.

Each piece explores a different visual language while maintaining the flag as the central anchor of the work. The compositions blend traditional materials with digital media, creating hybrid artworks that exist at the intersection of physical and digital creative practices.

The works are developed using a variety of methods and techniques, including drawing, photographic manipulation, digital compositing, and experimental visual processes. Through this layered approach, each artwork develops its own visual identity and expressive character.

Rather than presenting a single interpretation of Puerto Rican identity, the project embraces multiplicity — acknowledging that the Boricua experience cannot be reduced to a single narrative.

The Vision Behind the Creation

The exhibition 100×35 BANDERAS: RAÍCES offers a rare glimpse into the creative process behind the project.

A curated selection of photographs, videos, sketches, and digital artworks was presented publicly for the first time in this exhibition, allowing viewers to step behind the scenes and explore the evolution of the work.

Through these materials, visitors are invited to understand not only the finished artworks, but also the ideas, experiments, and creative decisions that shaped them.

“We are the colors that paint the canvas of our culture.”

The exhibition 100×35 BANDERAS: RAÍCES takes you behind the scenes to discover the creative process and the vision of its creator, Puerto Rican artist, D.G. Ducós.

One flag. One island. Countless identities.

Art lovers, cultural explorers, and Puerto Ricans from all walks of life — anyone who feels their heart swell with pride at the sight of the Puerto Rican flag — are invited to experience and share in this project.

100×35 BANDERAS is not only a personal artistic exploration; it is a tribute to the island, its culture, and the people who continue to shape its story.
